World War 2 - The Homefront

Step back in time and experience the poignant tales of the Home Front during World War II. As the audience takes their seats in an underground shelter in wartime London, the haunting wail of the air raid siren transports them to a pivotal era.

Margaret and her neighbour, Albert an ARP Warden, guide the audience through a series of flashbacks as they witness the anxiety-filled announcement of war by the Lord Chamberlain, experience the community effort in building Anderson shelters and feel the impact of rationing on daily life. They recall the nightly ritual of extinguishing lights to thwart enemy bombers and the characters share anecdotes of navigating shadowy streets during the blackouts.

Evacuation becomes a poignant theme as the characters recall the bittersweet farewells and the emotional strain of sending children away to the safety of the countryside. The audience gains insight into the complex emotions surrounding separation and the sacrifices made for the greater good.

Through these stories of ordinary people facing extraordinary circumstances, audiences gain a profound appreciation for the strength, adaptability, and unity that defined the Home Front during World War II.

During the post show session, all children will rotate between groups for half an hour of fun activity. This will include ARP training and a post-show quiz – with the winning class receiving a coveted Stage to School certificate.

Also available as a Single Actor Workshop. This paired down approach tries to embody as much of the original show as possible without the added extras. Click HERE to find out more.
