The Romans

An exhilarating and educational show that whisks young audiences away on an unforgettable journey through time.

Grandad, a quirky inventor, has been working on his own virtual assistance technology – think Alexa, with a twist. In a bid to help his grandchildren with their history homework about the Roman invasion of Britain, they explore British history like never before. With Grandad’s new invention ready for action, the grandchildren eagerly embark on a thrilling time-traveling adventure, taking the audience away with them. The machine transports them to crucial moments in history, allowing them to witness and experience first hand the pivotal events.

The children are taken back to a time before the Roman invasion and witness how people lived in ancient settlements. As they leap forward, they find themselves in the midst of the Roman invasion of Britain. They observe the construction of roads and towns, witnessing how Roman influence changed the landscape and lifestyles of the native Britons. The children visit the magnificent Roman baths, a hub of social activity and relaxation. They learn about Roman hygiene practices, social gatherings, and the significance of bathhouses in ancient times. They also visit a soldier in training and almost get caught in a battle with the Iceni Queen Boudica herself.

Throughout the play, the children not only observe but actively participate in the historical events they encounter. They engage with the characters they meet, gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges, values, and ways of life in ancient Britain.

During the post show session, all children will rotate between groups for half an hour of fun activity. This will include intense gladiator training, a Roman game and a post show quiz – with the winning class will receive the coveted Stage to School certificate!

Also available as a Single Actor Workshop. This paired down approach tries to embody as much of the original show as possible without the added extras. Click HERE to find out more.
